Tokyo, Japan 日本の東京 にほんのとうきょう*
In August of 2023 we moved to the Tama-cho (district) of Fuchu-shi (city) within the prefecture of Tokyo, Japan, to work at the American School in Japan (ASIJ). Here are some of our highlights so far!
*For you budding linguists out there, Japanese addresses place the 'larger' or 'bigger' area first, so the way to read "Tokyo, Japan" would literally be "Japan, Tokyo". Thus, the Kanji is translated as: Japan - 日本 and Tokyo - 東京, with the 'の' being a Japanese particle that indicates possession. Both in Kanji and Hiragana (the third script above) the pronunciation is: "Ni-ho-n/Ni-ppon"-"no"-"Tō-Kyō".
